  The Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) Monterey Bay Chapter founded October 13, 1972 at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California is a non-profit 501(c)(6) business professional association with a 501(c)(3) charitable education fund that supports research and broad-based interdisciplinary projects related to advancing science, engineering, mathematics, technology, and innovation, with an objective improve the quality of American life.The chapter continues its research started in November 2009 on the legacy of its distinguished lifetime member, Dr. John McReynolds Wozencraft (September 30, 1925 –August 31, 2009), an internationally recognized information theorist, electrical engineer, innovator, and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory, and the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School.Since 1979, AFCEA Educational Foundation quarterly academic honor awards in electrical and computer engineering, computer sciences, systems technology, and information technology have been presented to graduate students. In June 1990 the first annual Joint Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (JC4I) academic honor award was presented to a graduate student. The late Dr. Wozencraft was the founding chairman of the Naval Postgraduate School Command, Control, and Communications (C3) academic group in 1977. In June 2010, the quarterly and annual AFCEA academic honor awards were re-named recognizing Dr. John McReynolds Wozencraft’s accomplishments.Chapter membership includes individuals and organizations from the private sector, industry, government, and academia from the Central California Coast Region and Monterey Bay Area.
