Built scalable solutions and resilient infrastructure to support a global online video platform serving billions of monthly impressions for some of the world's most important broadcasters and brands. Improved server provisioning and application deployment in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and helped build a private cloud offering with OpenStack. Implemented modern configuration management, service discovery, and secrets management solutions. Managed and improved application deployment pipelines and tooling.Built auditing, compliance, and reporting tools that provided governance of and insight into Brightcove's usage of AWS and helped lead to substantial COGS savings (millions of dollars annually). Improved platform security through common-sense targeted efforts such as rolling out 2FA, host-based firewalls, improving LDAP, and enabling SELinux.Provided support, consulting, and architectural reviews to software engineering teams, helping them to best utilize cloud and datacenter resources to build scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient microservices while meeting security and compliance requirements.

Working for Harvard's new unified IT organization (HUIT), served as a thought leader and implementation consultant for DevOps practices and cloud technologies. Built and evangelized modern tooling/automation/workflows. Provided training and consulting services and helped to transition applications to AWS. Expanded and improved Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings at Harvard. Built and standardized reliable centralized services for source code management, continuous integration, issue tracking, and project collaboration for several hundred users. Served on committees and advisory boards for enterprise architecture, cloud adoption, and agile/devops practices.

Implemented full-lifecycle Linux system management (RHN Satellite, Puppet, Zabbix) and transitioned 200+ physical and virtual systems to new VMWare virtual infrastructure. Stood up new Puppet-managed DNS, DHCP, NFS, NTP, mail, file transfer, and other related systems. Integrated Linux infrastructure with enterprise services including Active Directory. Built new production and staging environments for EnerNOC's line-of-business energy management applications. Improved monitoring, alerting, log collection, and patch management. Assisted with architecture reviews, datacenter build-outs, network planning, and disaster recovery planning. Conducted outage postmortems and project retrospectives. Managed incident queue.

As a systems administrator for the Instructional Computing Group and then on the Application Architecture team, architected and build a flexible polyglot web application environment in support of developers and in collaboration with core infrastructure teams. Rolled out Capistrano-based deployment workflow and "platform as a service" features. Managed build/release/deploy pipelines for several dozen mission-critical client-facing web applications. Provided on-call support and troubleshooting. Assisted with performance testing and scaling. Advised developers on best practices, security standards, and ITIL compliance.

Managed a soup-to-nuts IT infrastructure, including web applications, email (+ spam/virus filtering), calendaring, shell and file servers, monitoring, backup services, Windows client management, virtualization infrastructure, etc. Helped develop, host, and maintain wikis, CRMs, Drupal, WordPress, and other CMSes, and various custom web projects. Designed and implemented center web site, consulted on technology decisions.
