The main aspects to my role were the management of the safety change process, whereby any changes to the rail network or operations would undergo an independent safety review as part of the approvals process. I was also responsible for managing the organisations input into the LU QRA model, I also developed a new asset safety risk model which was integrated into the business management functions as a driver for safety risk based asset management.

As a safety consultant I undertook a wide variety of tasks across various industry sectors inluding the construction of the Class 390 'pendolino' train, explosion risk assessment for a power and desalination plant in Qatar, safety studies for a helicopter fly-by-wire control system and several projects for LU and Railtrack.

My role mainly focussed on safety in the process and oil & gas industries. I was involved in a major HAZOP study for an refinery being built in Venezuala, undertook safety audits at the Dounreay nuclear power plant and co-authored a number of research papers for the HSE.

I undertook a major HAZOP study in Seoul & Kuwait for a refinery being built in Kuwait and also undertook a programme of safety and environmental risk assessment across ICI's UK sites.
