As Communications Director, I was charged with growing the reach of the organization’s work, and for designing and executing digital and earned media strategies in support of my colleagues’ groundbreaking lawsuits and other advocacy. Specific responsibilities included managing a small communications staff; overseeing all digital communications including website, blog, and social media; writing press releases, op-eds, and news updates; conducting media trainings for spokespeople; and coordinating elements of our events and awards program, including the work of video production vendors. Smart Growth America advocates for people who want to live in great neighborhoods with housing and transportation options near jobs, shops and schools. As Communications Fellow, I was responsible for managing content on the organization’s social media outlets, writing profiles of projects and individuals important to the smart growth movement, tracking media coverage of our issues, contributing to communications strategy and press outreach, and managing the year-end appeal for donations.

CPHA is a Baltimore-based nonprofit that provides support and information for neighborhood and community organizations, and advocates for affordable housing and greater access to public transit in the Baltimore area. My responsibilities varied, but I focused on CPHA’s research and communications work.
