As a Research Associate for the Scottish Government funded pilot project to implement Equally Safe, the Scottish Government’s strategy for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls, I have main responsibility for the qualitative research elements and completion of fieldwork, including the development of research tools, recruitment of participants, collection, organisation and analysis of data. This involves interviews, focus groups and other innovative methods. The project has the overall aim of generating new data on attitudes to gender-based violence within Scottish HEIs and producing a toolkit for challenging gender based violence on University campuses.

Working collaboratively with and supporting the work of the Public Boards and Corporate Diversity Programme team (a cross-cutting team of policy officials and analysts), this internship involved scoping out and developing a research specification, as well as online Questback surveys, to explore gender balance and wider diversity on public sector boards. This work was co-produced with the Public Appointments Team, Public Bodies Unit and key stakeholders such as the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland. I also updated data on gender representation on public, private and third sector boards and produced infographics to convey key messages for the 50:50 by 2020 Patnership for Change Campaign.
