Profile bio

About Aimee Morris

A leader in Arts & Technology education, with a passion for creating innovative and wide ranging experiences that will provide our students with creative and technical skills for life. With experience in the international private sector alongside the UK state sector, I have built a successful art and photography department from scratch at CATS college London, reinvigorated the Art, Design & Technology department at Broomfield School and recently joined the outstanding Compton School in FInchley. A specialist in creating partnerships with community organisations, I have overseen a wide range of projects in conjunction with charitable organisations. I create transformative experiences for all students, inclusive of those from diverse backgrounds and championing a wide range of art disciplines and traditions. With excellent networking and management skills, I have successfully nurtured strong and diverse partnerships. Collaborators appreciate working with me due to my ability to listen, communicate effectively, solve problems, provide guidance and work towards shared, meaningful goals. In my current role, I oversee the delivery of subject specific training, in Art & Design, to trainee teachers at Compton School's SCITT programme. This role has seen me creating the learning materials for our adult learners, alongside guiding them through the training process. I love having the opportunity to deliver training and career progression to adults, alongside my oversight over our younger learners. In all my leadership roles, I have worked to build teams that are positive, cohesive, well-supported, motivated and appropriately challenged. I encourage them to produce well-planned, consistent, inclusive experiences that are mapped against our department strategy and objectives, enabling our students to excel and participate with the arts. I deliver projects on-budget, in time and with minimal environmental impact, whilst ensuring maximum engagement. I love building resources and creating accessible, digital products. Lockdown proved to be learning experience for me. At first, I queried how I could meaningfully teach people, without being in the classroom with them physically. Pretty soon, I realised it was a massive opportunity to create videos, tutorials, interactive slides and resources that supported students learning. I made resources in Art, and also in Design Technology, covering diverse topics, from asbract art, to forces and stresses, to types of bridges to cookery skills. I found this work hugely rewarding and a fascinating challenge.
