Muhamad Ali is quoted as saying, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth", and I could not agree more! I believe that my life’s purpose is to be of service to my community in any capacity that will help us thrive together for not only a greater future but a greater now. I was a photographer when the Great Recession hit our communities and it brought us all to a new low. Being someone in the entertainment industry, I felt the first wave of budget cuts as people tightened their belt in order to adjust to the economic change. It was time for a life change. While gaining my Bachelors in Business Administration, I became very active in the community and in volunteering. It was there that I found my purpose. Becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA was an integral part of building a bridge between my head for business and my passion for service. I am now a coach and mentor to the many VISTA’s here in my community as well as a training facilitator and resource generator for their professional development as they transition from their service year toward their career goals. After I complete my service years with AmeriCorps I hope to continue to work in the world of non-profit in an administrative role.
