Selected from a pool of 231 leaders from across the states, Indigenous communities, and U.S. territories, this cohort of environmental justice leaders includes 18 Fellows hailing from 16 community organizations spanning seven states and three territories, including Indigenous territories, Hawai’i, and Puerto Rico. Together we will work with the New School Tishman Environment & Design Center to build projects organized around design principles that disrupt problems within the environmental movement and confront the climate crisis.

Climate Justice Organizer and Environmental Fellow for the oldest Latinx community organization in Brooklyn. As a fellow, I led weekly workshops on the tenets of climate justice to educate the local community on climate change action. I also helped plan and execute the 7th annual Climate Justice Youth Summit; this vibrant celebration and learning experience is the largest gathering in the United States for young people of color on climate change.As a student project director for a Yale Law School clinic, I am currently leading a team of law students on a just transition project. We are researching the environmental justice provisions of the New York CLCPA, including how these provisions could support green job creation, training, securement, and retention for Sunset Park, and any relevant case studies on the success or failure of similar environmental justice policy provisions in other jurisdictions.

Helped lead a historic, evolving, and non-traditional virtual grassroots campaign that was rooted in the just transition framework, against a well-funded incumbent with an extremely fossil-fuel-friendly stance. Grey Bull was the first Native-American to run for federal office in the state of Wyoming, and as policy director, I worked with local unions and tribal-nation leaders to craft progressive and environmental-centric policy platforms that were tailored to the present and future needs of everyday Wyomingites enduring COVID-19. Earthjustice partners with organizations and communities around the world to establish, strengthen, and enforce national and international legal protections for the environment and public health. My focus area was on Latin America and on Indigenous Communities in Oceania, focusing on human rights, climate litigation, and working with indigenous communities to prevent fossil fuel extraction on indigenous land, protected fisheries, and sacred sites.

Current research centers on building a model for Just Conservation that revolves around the Rights of Nature as a legal framework that unites the principles of environmental and climate justice, human health and wellbeing, and economic flourishing with the tenets of land preservation.

Challenged the systemic causes of poverty and discrimination by strengthening community voices through public policy and direct inclusion in legislative processes. Held townhalls that linked together diverse coalitions across races to better form environmental policy meeting the needs of California residents. Built a legal case enforcing a community benefits agreement with a new arena development project, guaranteeing open green space, or delaying and preventing the project.

This year's summer school focused on the topic of "Using Satellite Observations to Advance Climate Models." Students explored how satellite observations can be used to evaluate and improve climate risk models and heard from a range of professional scientists on developing climate models and remote sensing of the planet.

This climate impacts research group is dedicated to confronting the potential threats of rising seas, heat waves, and hurricanes for the US and Caribbean, specifically for underserved and marginalized communities who, due to limited resources for adequate preparation and recovery, often bear a disproportionate burden of these natural climate-related disasters.
