Ajay Makhija serves as the Board Member at Sambacapital and was also the Group Head/CEO of Global Consumer Bank at Samba ( formerly Saudi American Bank, a Citigroup subsidiary), Saudi Arabia , till early 2015. He is a member of the Compliance and Control Committee. During his 25 years of experience in the banking industry, Ajay has held senior leadership roles in global/regional banks across Retail Banking, Consumer lending, Credit Cards, Commercial banking & SME, Digital Banking,Wealth Management & Private Banking besides Asset management, Brokerage & Investment Banking.Having worked in several countries across India, Asia Pacific & the Middle East , Ajay has a deep understanding of both Emerging and Developed markets. Ajay has extensive cross functional leadership experience in Business management, Relationship Management, Credit & Risk Management ,Marketing & Brand Management, Operations, Product Development and Sales, that has allowed him to develop strong relationships, at the C-suite level, with some of the largest Corporates, Senior Regulators & UHNW customers. He is recognised for his strong people leadership , analytical skills and business acumen with a well proven ability to identify and manage complex businesses across different business cycles.Prior to joining Samba, Ajay spent 16 years at Citigroup, in different capacities during his tenure across India, Africa, and the Asia Pacific.Ajay graduated with Honors in Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering and holds an MBA from , FMS Delhi University (1989) where he received the prestigious Sir JC Ghosh Medal for academic excellence as the Delhi University Gold Medalist. Ajay contributes to the field by giving Guest lectures at universities and has hosted seminars on topics like Values and Ethics. He is currently on the Board of Mentors at the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurs at Singapore Management University. He is 52 years old and lives in Singapore.
