The Assistant Department Manager, Computers is a developmental position used to educate and prepare the individual for the responsibilities of the Department Manager position. I am responsible for assisting the Department Manager in directing staff to maintain merchandising, customer service, and operational standards within the department as well as other management duties as required.That's the corporate job description, but it doesn't begin to cover what I do - my primary overreaching responsibility is to make customers happy by getting them what they need. Whether it's by selling them something that's in stock, by special ordering something, or by simply letting them know that they don't need to spend the money they thought they needed to spend because their existing hardware could be made to do the job, that's what I do. It's about creating customers for life.I have a proven track record of improving sales of our Purchase Protection Plan - while other departments in our store rank in the 40s chain-wide for PPP sales, my department sits 28th Fiscal YTD at the time of writing. During my time in this position, I have ensured that our AppleCare+ iPad warranty sales have met the required attachment rates, bringing us into the top 5 stores in the chain for these sales.Since I have been in management in the Computer division, I have also increased sales of service-based add-ons (New PC Setups etc) which has had a positive effect on not only sales, but department margin.Recently I have started an initiative to shift the coaching focus of our store, starting with the Computer Department, to emphasize positive reinforcement as opposed to merely addressing issues as they occur in a negative manner.For the first quarter ot this fiscal year, I have been in charge of the department while the department manager has been on leave. In addition to the above duties, this is a customer service position which requires a great deal of customer contact. Accordingly, I was required to work effectively in a fast paced environment while at the same time providing quality service in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.

I was responsible for providing technical sales assistance for audio video equipment. I stayed up to date on new technology/products by attending product knowledge seminars and completing online training. My key responsibility was customer service and other duties included training new hires, merchandising, inventory counts, department housekeeping, and assisting other departments as required.While in this position, I helped to lift our department to #2 in the chain for home theatre speaker sales, and also to the top 5 for extended warranty sales; both areas had been a challenge up to that point.Our Monster Cable attach rate, which is a tracked metric for the Audio/Video Systems Department, was always above the watermark.
