My goal is to provide excellent patient care in pediatric endocrinology while working toward increased health equity and access to healthcare via telemedicine, and support kids with diabetes while in school by collaborating with school nurses. I received my undergrad degree in Math and History at the University of Wisconsin, medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY and completed pediatric and fellowship training in pediatric endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. My interests include school health and the care of students with diabetes, technological tools (e.g. telehealth and EMR) and educational and support resources (e.g. web and social media) to improve health and reduce racial and socioeconomic health disparities.In 2019, together with my colleagues in Madison, we founded and developed Diabetes in School Health (DiSH), which continues to direct. This Project ECHO telementoring program is a school diabetes health teleconferencing program for school nurses and school personnel who care for students with diabetes. Each ECHO session has a 10-15 minute talk by a pediatric diabetes expert followed by 45-50 minutes of discussion of de-identified cases and questions to promote collaborative learning between school personnel in communities across the state. We expanded DiSH beyond DiSH-WI to DiSH-WA in 2021 and DiSH-MT in 2023.My active research includes needs assessment as well as dissemination and implementation studies of Diabetes in School Health (DiSH). Previous and on-going work in schools includes authoring blogposts about diabetes and school, and leading a project which implemented a digital tool providing joint electronic access to diabetes care plans between schools and diabetes clinic staff.My active work using educational technology includes work under a HRSA grant to develop innovative educational modules about diabetes to educate nurses in a variety of settings including school nurses. Previous and on-going work in technology includes development of an implementation model for a telehealth program for pediatric diabetes as well as design of a variety of online educational resources as well as electronic medical record tools to improve quality of diabetes and endocrine care. I have experience managing social media and web-presence for clinical and scholarly endeavors related to pediatric endocrinology and I've created innovative educational modules teaching medical students about complex endocrine conditions.
