I've written straight SQL here and there, but tend to prefer working with ORMs like Django's ORM or SQLAlchemy.On the front end, I write clean and straightforward HTML & CSS, along with jQuery in almost all cases, straight JavaScript on occasion, and CoffeeScript where possible. I've recently added the Blueprint CSS framework into the mix for nice defaults and easier layout.Lastly, I insist on version control for every project, even if it's a solo gig. I use git in most cases, and Mercurial on occasion.
