I was responsible for maintaining a state of readiness across geographically dispersed operation, coordination of fitness for work screening, and remote site mine clinics with telehealth to aid and support injury management functions, as well as providing the day-to-day management of the fulltime Emergency Services Officers and the training coordination of the 24 volunteer ERT members spanning across four separate shifts. Weipa, Queensland, Australia

The Town Act stipulates the remote mining operation provide Fire & Rescue protection for the town of Weipa and neighbouring indigenous communities. The Rio Tinto Emergency Services Team responds to remote community and mine emergencies which can include, rail, marine and aircraft incidents.I formed part of a small, dedicated team responsible for the continuous operation of a remote fire and rescue station, working continuously around the clock performing 12-hour day and night shifts attending to safety, security, fire, and environment incidents. Additional tasks included: COVID-19 (POC) screening, drug/alcohol testing and issuance of permit to work approvals for critical works.Achievements ♦ Delivered accredited training to new volunteer ERT members.♦ Led the feasibility into bringing the QFES Cadet Program to Weipa.

Diamond Protection was the fire & rescue contractor at the time to Shell Australia formerly (QGC) which supplies liquified natural gas from wells to compression stations throughout the Surat Basin.My remit was to lead a crew of 3 firefighters and 4 security staff to serve and protect the company’s LNG assets in the Ruby Jo section. This included industrial emergency response to uncontrolled gas releases, vehicle accidents which occurred off-road in remote areas and response to wildfires in dry, remote bushland often caused by lightning strikes. Whilst doing so I was responsible for the deployment of personnel and equipment to mitigate injury, property damage and/or loss of containment. Other duties included assigning emergency equipment maintenance testing, performing firefighter and security officer training, conducting safety and security inspections and representing the company at emergency management briefings.Achievements: ♦ Developed and Rolled Out - Fit for Work Policy. ♦ Lead Trainer for Live-In Chinchilla Firefighting Training Facility.

The 'Crac' as it is affectionally known produces 85,000oz of gold each year. Over 200 staff work across the site. it is an underground mine. Stope mining is the method applied using haul trucks to tram ore to surface for onsite processing. Here I coordinated a small back-to-back team responsible for safety, health, emergency response, training and the rehabilitation of injured workers. Other areas of responsibility were the leadership of the site volunteer emergency response team (ERT), facilitation of fitness for work requirements, security of gold assets and coordinating the roll out of the company's new critical risk management project. Achievements: ♦ Manager/Captain of Mines Rescue Team to win Australian Mines Rescue Competition.♦ Championed Health and Well Being Program which received a national mining excellence award.

Jabiru, Northern Territory, Australia

Ranger is a uranium mine located 3 hours' drive east of Darwin. The open cut mine commenced operation in 1980, is highly secure and regulated due to its position near Kakadu National Park. This was my first role in mining, I was fortunate to start with a well-established company at the time called BLP where I was a contractor to site for the first 3 months, before I was offered a residential position with the company and relocated to Northern Territory. I was part of the emergency services team assigned to monitor security access and attend to all first aid, fire, and mine site emergencies. Other assignments were to assist and liaise with Northern Territory Police, Fire & Emergency Services with after-hours response to incidents within the remote community. Achievements: ♦ I was accepted into the Northern Territory Fire & Rescue as a retained firefighter based at Jabiru Station.♦ I was appointed Captain/Coach of the local Kakadu Storm Rugby League Team.

Responded to emergency operational assignments including fire, road crash, technical rescues, and hazardous material incidents in accordance with legislative powers and responsibilities. Maintained emergency response equipment and conducted community safety and fire prevention activities. Achievements: ♦ QAS Emergency Care Instructor for the region. ♦ Foundation Member of the Northcoast Area Training Team.

BEST Security was one of the largest security solutions companies in Queensland at the time and some of its high-profile clients included multinational companies such as ALH Group, (Woolworths) and Liquor Land (Coles) and Club and Events Queensland. My role was accountable for management, training and compliance in the Sunshine Coast region, the company had three operational areas across south-east Queensland with multiple crowd controllers assigned to licensed venues and events. Special areas of focus included recruitment, training and compliance with liquor and security industry standards. Championed several initiatives during this time which included fire risk reduction strategies, increased patron safety via the introduction of Identification and Metal detection (edged weapons) scanning. Achievements: ♦ Appointed to the Office of Fair Trading – Security Industry Review Committee. ♦ Involved in the crowd management planning for the Big Day Out Festivals and G20 Summit.
