His career with Toyota North America spanned 3 decades encompassing a series of C-suite and executive leadership positions in Technology, Strategy, Sales, Financial Services Operations, Environmental Sustainability, Philanthropy, and External Affairs.Al retired as Group Vice President and Chief Social Innovation Officer for Toyota Motor North America in August of 2020. In this Sr. Executive role, he reinvigorated the company’s affairs by establishing nontraditional alliances, instituting cooperative problem solving, and promoting the company’s goodwill in North America, following the transition of Toyota’s North American headquarters move from Southern California to Noth Texas. As Group Vice President of Service Operations and Corporate Planning for Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Lexus Financial Services (LFS), he led a division of over 1800 team members, transforming the division into a customer-centric service operation across the Customer Services, Collections, Asset Protection, Central Recovery and Fraud business sectors. Additionally, Al led the company’s Strategic Planning, Corporate Communications, Government Affairs and Community Relations Departments, promoting Toyota’s undertakings with national and civic leaders.After retiring, Smith launched ATIA Advisory Services, a career and executive coaching firm focused on helping clients improve their performance, develop leadership skills, navigate challenges, and achieve their professional goals through personalized guidance, feedback, and relationship management. Clients receive insights and strategies to help them enhance their effectiveness and achieve greater success in their roles.Smith served on the boards of National Urban League, Finance Committee, the Congeressional Black Caucus Foundation Board, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Advisory Council, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas, FFA Foundation and is currently serving on the board of the Collin County Leadership Council.
