Motorcycle racing has been part of my life for many years having competed ,sponsored and spectated across the UK and internationally, one of the best aspects is meeting so many wonderful people sharing the same passion and enthusiasm for the sport. I am delighted that I was asked to help organise a race challenge series and have been able to assemble a race team comprising several TT winners , Scottish and European Champions to compete against a team of South African racers. Our team of racers and companions flies out on the 27th for a 17 day trip of a lifetime. The Inaugural South African v Scotland motorcycle racing challenge will be run on January 2015 with the first team races being part of the 14th Passion for Speed Event , an annual event for Classic Cars and Motorcycles celebrating in grand style the Golden Age of Motor racing at Zwartkops International Raceway, JHB Pretoria. http://www.zwartkops.co.za/ The “Honour Challenge” between Scotland and South Africa will be a highlight of the SA Classic TT Racing series and the concluding races will be run on 7th Feb at Killarney Raceway overlooked by the world renowned Table Mountain , Cape Town. http://www.wpmc.co.za/ The team will also enjoy a tour across the country taking in the fine scenery and entertainment the country provides and we will also have exclusive track access on the world famous Kylami race track, Johannesburg recently acquired by Porsche SA . This was seen as the ultimate in poison chalices & I was frequently asked if I was mad to take up the challenge. The press predicted large scale business closures with up to 4000 redundancies. It was certainly hard work but in the end the team successfully relocated 97% of the affected companies. The majority of the remaining 3% opted for early retirement rather than relocate to close in a relatively short time. This enabled the project to start on schedule & opened to traffic on the 28th June 2011.With an estimated cost of £692 million, the M74 extension was the largest infrastructure project to be completed in Scotland in recent years and was finished eight months ahead of schedule.
