Bedspace provides social services for young people leaving care, asylum seekers or people with health problems that require additional support. My role was to arrange liability and payments for council tax and water, so we would receive bills through the Post, email or handed to us by staff or service users from the properties, I would then check the bills against our record and make sure it is a bill we owe, if so I would create a purchase order to inform accounts to make the payment if not I would make the necessary arrangements to have it amended. This role required a high level or organization and adaptability as communicating with councils from all over the country was required and each council can work differently to others so I would need to find the correct numbers or emails to send the property changes to or find out if they have their own online form to complete. I was also required to act quickly as councils can have a high volume of emails and letters to process so processing a change was frequently slow meaning reminder letters and court summons for unpaid bills could easily happen which can also come with fines, penalties etc. which would also have to be dealt with, We also had to ensure that bills where changed to service users as part of bedspace responsibilities was to help the young care leavers become independent and pay their own bills so we would ensure that it was changed to their names so the support workers could assist and teach them to pay their bills, budget their money and to help prevent the service user getting into debt.
