I am the product of a long and varied military / civilian career and am a retired South African Special Forces Operator. In addition to the valuable practical skills and experience I have gained over the course of many years, have also had exposure to a great number of hand-to-hand combat styles. Whilst on a parachuting tour to the Czech Republic in 2005 as a part of the Special Forces League, I was introduced to a group that trains the Czech Special Forces & Police Special Task Force in self-defence (MUSADO) in Praha. This style of combat impressed me greatly and on my return to South Africa, searched for a similar suitable combat form. I wanted to affiliate with a recognized body in Israel, and after a great deal of very careful research, I chose IKI with Moshe Katz as the Chief Instructor there. Moshe had evolved IKI Krav Maga to such a degree (and continues to do so) that it not only dovetailed perfectly with my own requirements, but exceeded what I had experienced.I was the first IKI instructor in South Africa to be certified and was also instrumental in forging the first links with Moshe Katz in Ma’alah Adumim, near to Jerusalem. We maintain a strong bond with IKI in Israel.I am proud to hold the rank of Full Instructor and Master Instructor in IKI.I train class groups as well as private clients and their family members in all aspects of personal and third party protection.In addition to training a broad cross-section of students, I have also enabled many people with physical limitations, due to age or injury, to adapt the IKI system in ways that not only amplify their ability but enable them to defend themselves powerfully and effectively. Over this last while, March - July 2020 I have had the time to put my military experiences and knowledge to good use, and adding to my program, aspects of the philosophical practice of warfare into my training. I utilise the aspects of Sun Tzu and the Art of War, as it pertains to combat, into our tactics to assist us in seeing the importance of Sun Tzu's teachings during combat.I also use the valuable experiences and teachings of John Boyd and his writings on the OODA Loop in showing us the importance of strategic thinking as well as the urgency of smart and continual training if you want to survive when in conflict with an attacker. I train Security Personnel, Patrol Officers, their Supervisors and Senior Management in aspects of Krav Maga which require a higher degree of control and greater skills in physical restraint.
