About Alan Shields

Over 30 years working in high risk environments, has provided an understanding of hazardous activities and safe systems of work. Twenty years' experience as a pipeworker and pipework team leader in heavy industry (manufacture of nuclear submarines and surface vessels), has ensured a practical understanding of workforce behaviour. Combined with ten years working in the HSE discipline, mainly in the subsea sector of the oil and gas industry has ensured knowledge of HSE processes at a high level. Familiar with all subsea activities from mobilising equipment to the quayside to installing and pre-commissioning subsea infrastructure with divers and WROV’s. An understanding of HSE practices and safety cultures gained by attending Company and Supplier sites in the UK, France, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
