Having enjoyed the last 6.5 years as a branch manager in Wigan I have taken up the role of Area Manager looking after 13 branches across the North West. My remit is to assist the branches continue to grow their business in each of the "church spires."Our business model remains constant and boringly predictable in that we are not governed by targets or a bonus culture. This ensures we continue to do the right thing for the customer and not what is always the most profitable for the bank. Whilst other financial institutions look to branch closures and staff redundancies we continue to grow our branch network, our staff and our customer base. It's 5 years since the opening the doors @ Handelsbanken Wigan and what a great five years it's been. When we opened we had 4 staff, no customers,a blank piece of paper and a passion for success. It was apparent that our business model SHOULD work as the professional, business and private community of Wigan like to conduct business locally; a cornerstone of the Bank's business model where the branch is the bank. Without the hindrance of targets and an emphasis on superior customer service, we have been succesful in attracting a wide variety of businesses and private customers to the bank which include both borrowers and depositors. The busineses are very varied consisting of maunfacturers, logistic companies, leisure, professional practise, importers, exporters and property professionals. We continue to grow whilst our competitors exit sectors, close branches and seek to rebuild their balance sheets.The branch network continues to grow and now consists of over 200 branches throughout Great Britain.
