Alan has been involved in the South African marketing and advertising environment for 40 years. He started his career with the Unilever Group. Nine years experience with this global player, complemented by four years of formal study (IMM & GSB), gave Alan a thorough and pragmatic understanding of marketing and communication strategy.In 1990 he left Unilever to join On Line Advertising in Durban as a partner and CEO. In 1996, as part of an acquisition offer, Alan was offered a position with Ogilvy & Mather as Managing Director of their promotional marketing companies. In three years Alan turned the ailing companies into profit contributing units. In 1999 he founded Quartermaster which has grown into a dynamic and respected communications company. Alan is currently CEO of the group which has evolved from a classical advertising agency into a digital first marketing consultancy.His extensive marketing experience combined with a passion to be at the forefront of digital technology solutions has enabled Alan to successfully lead the QM team in mastering the digital avalanche. Throughout his career Alan has presented thought leadership topics at both International and local conferences.
