This is a small liaison group for aggregates members to speak with one voice for the industry and to collaborate with the Tennessee Department of Transportation to formulate solutions to current or future issues and to drive opportunities that benefit both industry and the department.

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) is the voice of the construction industry, is an organization of qualified construction contractors and industry related companies dedicated to skill, integrity and responsibility. We are broken down in Chapters and Branches to better serve our members at the local and state levels.AGC of Tennessee is the Chapter for Tennessee. The West Tennessee Branch serves the state from the Tennessee River to the Mississippi River. The DCEC's purpose is to 1) develop, coordinate and encourage new and expanded industry, business, and trade in Desoto County; and 2) to promote and assist in development, education, tourism, infrastructure development, and other matters of civic interest. Desoto County is the third-most populous county in Mississippi and the second most populous county in the Memphis Metropolitan Area.

Committee works to plan and execute membership promotion and retention campaigns; develop Association procedures and policies relating to membership promotion; provide oversight and guidance on association partnership programs. Committee exceeded budget revenue each year and moved association from a negative growth rate to net positive growth and achieved retention goals. Created a new membership classification targeting small producers.

Part of a ten person committee established to develop a strategic plan to increase participation in and accountability of grassroots advocacy for the aggregates industry. This taskforce is part of The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association's "Aggregates in Action" initiative.

The NSSGA Young Leaders conduct an annual meeting for industry professionals 40 years of age and younger to develop leadership and management skills, address and develop industry positions, build a national network of industry professionals, exchange ideas and discuss areas of mutual interest that will help them and their companies become more successful in the aggregates industry.The 2010 meeting was held in San Diego, April 28-May 2, 2010 at the Hotel del Coronado. Highlights of the meeting included:Tour of Hanson Aggregate's Santee Operation and the colocated Sycamore Landfill and Hanson's Carroll Canyon facility; Community Service Project with the Navy Seabees of ACB-1; Speakers from the Industry including NSSGA Chairman William Schneider, President and CEO of Knife River Corporation; 2009 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Award Randy Kremer, Vice President of Granite Construction; NSSGA Treasurer Anne Lloyd, Executive Vice President and CFO of Martin Marietta Materials; and Joy Wilson, President and CEO of the NSSGA. Other topics included safety and health in the industry, permitting in California by Granite Construction, Web 2.0, merger and acquisition activity in the aggregate industry, and a congressional update by Rep. Ken Calvert (R) 44th District of California.

Lead a ten person team to plan the 30th Annual Memphis Mineral, Fossil, & Jewelry Show (April 25-26, 2009, Agricenter International, Memphis, TN, produced by the Memphis Archaeological & Geological Society). Successfully branded the show as "The Earth Wide Open". The Show is a commercial "rock show", contracting 30 dealers from around the U.S., who sell high quality minerals, fossils, jewelry, beads, lapidary products, and other earth science related materials. The Show is open to the public and in addition to the commercial aspects offers earth science education experiences through a variety of demonstrations, exhibits, and professional speakers. Our team succeeded in moving the show to its new location at the Agricenter International, on budget, while experiencing increased attendence over fifty percent.

Served on the Board of Directors during this period, which included service in the following capacities: First Vice President - Field Trips 1997-1998; President 1999-2000The Memphis Archaeological and Geological Society, chartered by the State of Tennessee on September 29, 1958, is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Current membership is over 250. The objectives of the Society are in part to promote an active interest in earth science, archaeology and the lapidary arts in the Mid-South by conducting public programs for scientific and educational purposes. The Memphis Mineral, Fossil, and Jewelry Show is the Society’s largest single annual event. The Society meets every month with both adult and youth programs and takes field trips on a regular basis for the purpose of collecting and/or education. • Office of Reengineering (10/97-11/99). Requested by Commissioner Milton Hamilton to be part of a five-person team charged with simplifying the state’s environmental permitting processes. Supervised the development of standard operating procedures for the Division of Air Pollution Control. Selected to lead a pilot project for the department’s newly created Environmental Coordinator position prior to statewide implementation.• Geologist. Division of Solid Waste Management (9/96-10/97). Inspected hazardous waste generators, transporters, and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities. Oversight for remediation projects involving illegal disposal of hazardous waste.• Geologist. Division of Underground Storage Tanks (8/93- 9/96) Project manager for over sixty environmental remediation projects involving petroleum releases impacting soil and groundwater. Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving technical and budgetary components for geological investigations and corrective action plans.
