Through our strategic partnership with Bain Consulting, I worked with other team leaders to identify and literally create changes within the company that many in the radio industry have adopted today. It was during this time that I chaired the radio committee and was handed the task of developing the criteria for the newly formed CMA National Broadcast Personality of the Year award. This new category was identified by my colleagues on the committee as necessary to reflect the upcoming changes in the way broadcast radio personalities would begin delivering their content. I was hired to protect the CBS country franchise in the Chicagoland market. WUSN-FM was under direct attack by then ABC-owned WKXK-FM. Within six months of my arrival, facing a dominate foe, "Kicks Country" flipped formats in June, 1997. This returned WUSN-FM to "the most listened to country station in the United States" with a cume audience of over a million listeners per week.
