Getting around Northwestern New Jersey can be a challenge without your own vehicle, but I'm here to help.I coordinated bicycle and pedestrian related programming for TransOptions, a nonprofit transportation resource center. I managed the NJDOT funded Safe Routes to School program in Morris, Sussex and Warren County school districts and municipalities. About 60% of children in the United States were walking or biking to school in 1960. Today, around just 12% of children walk or bike to school. The Safe Routes to School initiatives begin at a small scale by simply reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions around schools and developing a more active, healthy youth. Something simple such as walking or biking to school can build a much better sense of community within our children.I also performed outreach, created maps, created surveys, prepared progress reports for NJDOT, and obtained my certification for League Certified Instructor of the League of American Bicyclists. I assisted the Bicycle Safety Specialist with Children's Learn to Ride courses as well as Adult Learn to Ride courses.As GIS Manager at TransOptions, I prepared maps for our Employer Services division. These maps give employers throughout our service area a visual of where their employees reside which allowed us to recommend carpooling and van-pooling options.
