My parents had a funny idea of what constitutes a holiday. They loved nothing more than dragging their kids up a soggy mountainside in Scotland or wading through a bog. Everything about those holidays got under my skin, or was it the midges? Either way they triggered in me a desire to study science and the natural earth throughout academia and pursue into my professional life. The thought of a field trip to conduct a seismic survey on a cold beach in Wales was irresistible to a student like me.Fresh out of university I went to ride the waves on the seismic vessels. Mucking in on the back deck with streamer deployment, QC of data acquired and processing to final migrated stack. Technology, adventure, engineering and force 12 rollercoasters. What wasn’t to love? I’d have done that job for free but they insisted on paying me. Family is important to me and they called me home from the seas. So I put on a shirt and deployed my skills with the land lubbers. Satisfying my thirst for adventure by tackling challenges wherever possible, like cycling 1000miles from John O’Groats to Lands End over 18 days with my partner (I even proposed to her on day 2… friends said this was risky!).Every challenge motivates and my current one is the most exciting. RockWave embodies everything about my personality and those of my fellow co-founders. Together we are riding a new wave in seismic imaging and plotting our own course.
