Mr. Albert Kombo is a seasoned leader with a demonstrated history spanning over 24 years working in the non-profit organization management industry, largely in Africa. He has engaged with governments, foundations and multilateral sectors, and is skilled in non-profit organization stewardship including change management, programme design and implementation oversight, resource mobilization, and multi-country support. He has keen interest in organizational development and systems strengthening, particularly for delivery of nutrition, health, livelihood, social protection, and HIV/AIDS interventions. Mr. Kombo has a post-graduate certificate in programme management from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in medical anthropology from the University of Nairobi.Currently, Albert is serving as the Regional Director for Nutrition International in Africa, driving initiatives to advance nutrition in the region through thought leadership, nutrition governance, systems strengthening and evidence-informed low-cost and high impact-interventions. In this function, he is supporting country teams in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Tanzania, and working with teams and stakeholders in more than 10 other African countries including Malawi and Chad to advance nutrition. Previously, Albert worked for over six years as the Regional Director for CBM International in Africa East and South Region, driving disability work in more than 10 countries in the region. Prior to joining CBM, he worked at Planned Parenthood Global for 6 years as Associate Regional Director for Africa, leading reproductive health interventions in the continent. He has experience managing relationships with and reporting to diverse and complex boards and has supervised many large teams across the continent, often in inter-cultural diversity settings. He understands the changing development landscape in Africa as well as the global terrain with its many attendant nuances.Mr. Kombo began his career at Plan International in Kenya where he worked as a programme officer, before joining the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a clinical trial coordinator. He later worked with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) as a programme manager, and thereafter joined EgHealth APHIA II as deputy director. He has also provided consultancy services to a range of organizations including UNICEF, ILO, the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria, and the East African Community.
