About Albert Alwang
At my most recent role as an economic development specialist at Virginia Tech, I promoted economic growth throughout Virginia's communities and regions. I accomplished this by linking university resources and research with community organization, non-profits, local governments, and private businesses. Additionally, I collaborated with community stakeholders in applied research and projects relating to community, economic and workforce development issues. I have a particular interest in understanding the socio-economic impacts of policy and communities’ changes transpiring throughout rural communities. Since starting work at OED, I have conducted several economic impact analyses; feasibility studies; regional strategic planning; and help developed a resource on the best practices for economic impact methodology. I also led Vibrant Virginia, a university-wide initiative, supporting university faculty, staff, and students engaged in applied research and projects on issues facing rural and urban Virginia.Prior to returning to Blacksburg in 2017, I formulated research questions to solve complex problems in international development. I conducted empirical research on agriculture and trade policy, multi-lateral development aid effectiveness, climate change, poverty alleviation and health policy. I pride myself on being able to communicate complex research outcomes and policy implications to a broad audience. I attended Virginia Tech majoring in Economics and then, received a Master’s in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University.
Listed skills include Stata, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, and 14 others.
