I'm an experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable music radio and live events professional with more than 25 years of BBC experience and contacts. I've also built a reputation as a respected, fair and inspiring leader in a changing media landscape. I spent several years as Editor of Specialist music at BBC Radio 2, before leaving to pursue a freelance career in event and festival production, and as an Associate University lecturer in Radio, Audio and Podcasting Production at Goldsmiths and City, University of London. I'm a creative and versatile audio producer, engaging communicator and an expert in several fields of music, including Country, Folk and Americana. In my role as Editor at BBC Radio 2 and 6 music I ran programme teams as diverse as Steve Wright in the Afternoon, Jo Whiley, Cerys Matthews and Friday Night is Music Night and l led on coverage of events including The Country Music Association Awards, The Radio 2 Folk Awards, Radio 2 in Hyde Park, Glastonbury , South By Southwest , The Young Brass Award , Cambridge Folk Festival, The Biggest Weekend and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.I also created and managed the Radio Academy award winning BBC Radio 2 Country pop-up DAB station, between 2015-2017.My BBC career started at Radio Sheffield in my native South Yorkshire, where I trained as a producer and reporter. After landing my dream job at Radio 2 I worked up through the ranks producing Steve Wright, Janice Long, Stuart Maconie, Bob Harris, Mark Lamarr, and Friday Night is Music Night amongst others.I've written and produced various documentaries and series, mainly around Country music, including ‘80s Nashville – Taking Back the Country’, ‘The Broken Spoke - A True Texas Honkytonk’, The Story of the Ryman and a 6 part series ‘That Western Swing Thing’, all of which have allowed me to travel extensively throughout the USA. In 2009 I won the CMA Wesley Rose International Award for outstanding achievement in country music media and I'm a member of the CMA International task force, made up of key players in the European country music industry.I'm a keen musician and choral conductor playing flute and piccolo with the BBC Elstree Concert Band, and singing with Diversity, London’s LGBT Chamber Choir. I'm also a long-distance walker, scuba diver and conservation volunteer with organisations including Thames 21, TCV, IVHQ and GVI, which has seen me working on various projects including Marine research and bee-keeping in Mexico, Turtle Conservation in Costa Rica and sustainable farming in the Galapagos Islands.
