Supply Chain Council

On joining the IOSCM team and later the board of advisors, I was entrusted by the CEO to develop and lead the Middle-East Region, North Africa, and Mediterranean Region within the membership, training, qualifications, and professional best practices within the Supply chain management profession. I am happy to report that I managed to put the foundation in place and today we have a professional team in Dubai, UAE and we have established several partnerships across the region. The aim is to continue reaching more students, members, professionals, and organizations.

In August 2019 I have obtained the approval from the Institute to developed the Mediterranean and Middle-East Regions. The institute is a global body and provides professional membership and programmes approved by SFEDI and Ofqual. https://www.ioscm.com/courses/

After several years working at the back of the house and operations with leading firms, in 1998, I founded the first Logistics and Supply Chain Management information, training/education and professional advisory centre in Malta. This initiative has been building over a number of years after I have joined the Employment & Training Corporation in 1994 (Malta) as a trainer in different areas of Supply Chain Management.. In 1999 I decided to join with Institute of Logistics in the UK, today the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) and later we gained accreditation by the same institute (CILT) and the Institute of Operations Management in the UK. The aim is to able to offer quality and international training and education both in the local and overseas. In 2010 we introduced the 01st Masters Programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management through Birmingham City University in Malta and it was very successful as we had the first class of students graduated in 2012. This programme is still on and interested students and professional people can visit our website. Its is accredited by MFHEA and Get Qualified by Malta Enterprise. In 2014 we launched the TransLog Malta Events with the 01st Transport Manager and Practitioner Forum and Trans Log Awards. This was followed by the 01st Logistics Manager and Practitioner Forum in 2015. These events have entered in our calendar of events each year and are being organised in conjunction with BPC International and the support of HSBC Malta. From January 2023 SSM Group is focusing on education consultancy and advisory professional services.

GS1 Malta (formerly EAN Malta) was originally established in 1992 by the Malta Federation of Industry (FOI) and the General Retailers and Traders Union (GRTU) as a non profit making body to promote a standard business system for identification and communication. Representatives from active users of these standards form GS1 Malta's Board of Directors.GS1 (formerly EAN International) began with representation in 12 countries, an Association established in 1977 to develop a compatible system with the UCC System of the United States. Today, it has 108 Member Organisations representing 145 countries. These organisations, in turn, provide full support and information to their local member companies.GS1 comprises 4 major areas: Asia Pacific, West, South America, and MEMA (Middle East, Mediterranean, and North African countries). The Head Offices are situated in Brussels and Princeton. I left the organisation in December 2023 aftet 23 years of service and contribution.

In August 2016 I was elected to the council of CILT and later given the role of Education Secretary and later deputy chair. During the three years, I have worked closely with the chair and council members to boost the CILT Qualifications and we brought the CILT accreditation to Global College Malta. Plus we have organized a number of events. I left the institute in June 2019.

Supply Chain Senior Manager I joined Gasan Group as Supply Chain Manager to support the group subsidiaries in enhancing the Logistics, Transport and Supply Chain Management . Gasan Group has over 80 years of growth, diversity and innovation. The Group has become one of Malta’s most successful Business Organisations, built on a solid reputation and presently employing over 600 people. A long-standing concessionaire appointment by the Ford Motor Company established the Gasan Group as a leader in Malta’s Automotive Industry and paved the way for the Group to expand into other business sectors, including Insurance, Building Services Solutions, and Property Development.

After I have successfully managing CILT in UAE & GCC Region for six (6) years in January 2014, I have resigned from CILT UAE administration and I am supporting WBS in UAE through training and consultancy both on technical and commercial level throughout the Middle-East Region.

I was entrusted to join a group of experts to start the process of forming the National Logistics Policy for Malta. In the same year within the Ministry for Competitiveness and Economic Growth I have been given the responsibility to work and co-ordinate the Logistics Cluster within the Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP). The aim of this project is to promote Malta as a Maritime & Logistics Hub and enhance this sector, industry in terms of policies, infrastructure, ICT and HR etc. This is the first initiative of its kind in Malta.

I was part of the logistics team to organise , support and supervise the transport and logistics of the Ministries of Foreign Offers of different countries and all commonwealth delegates during the summits.

In December 2007, I was entrusted to support the CILT Council activities (membership, education and CPD ) in the UAE & GCC Region.CILT UAE is the Regional Hub for the Middle-East Region and one of the most reputable and recommended professional and vocational institutions in the UAE & GCC Region. By the end of 2007 the membership was less than 80 members and today we are reaching 700 + members. The qualifications of the institute were very successful and continue to be with more than 300 students enrolling on it through the GCC Region. The events organized by CILT in UAE & GCC Region are extremely successful attracting approx: 150 delegates each event. We support a number of public and private events throughout the Region. In 2011 and 2012 CILT UAE won the best education and training provider in UAE (SCATA Awards). Since April 2007 I have been entrusted by the University to co-ordinate the Masters Programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Malta, North Africa and Middle-East Region. In Malta it was very successful programme and now we are developing it in the Middle-East Region.
