I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at The University of Washington. I earned my Ph.D. in Tissue Engineering from University College, London (UK) in 2012 before moving to the United States to pursue a career in biomedical research. My expertise includes electrophysiology, molecular biology, and tissue engineering, with a particular focus on muscle and neuronal tissues. My work has involved the development of novel 2D and 3D culture systems for assessing nerve and muscle performance, and the analysis of physiological interactions between multiple cell types in vitro. By integrating human tissue engineering and cell culture with advanced methods for assaying electrophysiological and contractile function, I am working to develop novel platforms with which to improve the predictive capacity of current preclinical toxicity screening and disease modeling technologies. In addition to my academic work, I serve as a scientific advisor to companies looking to develop neuromuscular tissue models for commercial applications. My current advisory roles are with Seattle-based Curi Bio, who develop analytical tools for cell-based models of disease, and Sound Eats, a seafood-focused, cell-based meat company.
