As a CHW my main role is to help patients in Missouri and their families to navigate and access community services, other resources, and adopt healthy behaviors. I support providers and the Care Management Coordinator through an integrated approach to care management and community outreach. Other essential functions to this position:-Assisting patients with enrolling in health insurance and explaining their summary of coverage-Promoting, maintaining, and improving the health of our patients and their families-Offer education to the community through community outreach projects-Provide social support and informal counseling-Advocate for individuals and community health needs-Provide services such as first aid, and blood pressure screening.

•Provided free HIV/STD testing and treatment to community members at our evening walk-in clinic, Spectrum After Dark•Collaborated with team to plan and execute community outreach, fundraising, and educational events for the greater Columbia community•Gave presentations to high schools in the area about healthcare and our services •Partnered with team of interns to implement programs to extend Spectrum's reach in the community and across the campus

Jumpstart is a non-profit kindergarten readiness program (part of AmeriCorps) that helps preschoolers in low-income neighborhoods achieve academic success by developing strong literacy and language skills.Since working for Jumpstart my passion for kids has grown even larger than before. After working on letter identification and sounds for weeks, seeing a child finally 'get it' has to be one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever experienced. Working in the non-profit sector provided me with opportunities to serve in own community and witness firsthand how impactful a helping hand can be to an individual.
