Postdoctoral researcher for the CTIT CONNECTING project. Applying qualitative research techniques, and more specifically user-centered and participatory design techniques, to design a navigation system to help visually impaired people move through public spaces. In addition, working on side projects related to using social robots to playfully shape people's behavior.

My PhD work has been carried out as part of the Dutch national program COMMIT, in the project "Interaction for Universal Access". My work package consisted on using computers to analyze behavioral cues and recognize high-level human behavior. I have carried out this task in the context of entertaining, interactive installations.

I worked as a research leader/assistant in several projects that dealt with facilitating the interaction between people and computers. Among the projects that i worked on, these are the most important ones:• Hand gesture recognition interface for teaching hearing impaired people Ecuadorian Sign Language (2008-2009) – After winning a grant from the VLIR-ESPOL international program, we developed a system that enhances the methodology currently used to teach hearing impaired children the Ecuadorian sign language. It was developed using C and C++, using neural networks to train the system to recognize hand gestures and using OpenCV to detect and track the hand movement of the teacher.• Virtual Goalkeeping (2008) – Presented in November at the ESPOL’s Community Bonding Science Fair, I developed an application where users would stand in a room in front of a webcam that would track their movements using computer vision algorithms while they attempted to block penalty shots presented in front of them with a projector. It was developed using C++ and the OpenCV library.
