About Alex Aron

I am the Producing Artistic Director of The Remote Theater Project which brings theater artists from different cultural backgrounds into dialogue to create new work. (remotetheaterproject.com). I am also a theater director and educator residing in New York City. Directing highlights include: Salome: Woman of Valor by Frank London and Adeena Karasick in Vancouver, CA, Toronto and Oberon Theater, Cambridge and Judith Sloan's "It Can Happen Here", "Naked Old Man" by Murray Schisgal (EST/Playroom Theater) and "Imaging Madoff" by Deb Margolin at Theater J in Washgington, DC. I conceived and directed "A Night in the Old Marketplace" with music by Frank London (Klezmatics) text by Glen Berger which has been seen in São Paulo, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Toronto, Milan, MASS MOCA / Berkeley CA, and Summerscape/Bard College and others. "Three Seconds in the Key" by Deb Margolin (New Georges), "Karaoke at the Suicide Shack" by Rob Urbinati (Queens Theater in the Park), "Eloise and Ray" by Stephanie Fleishmann, (Village Voice Season Highlight). "Great Men of Science No.’s 21 & 22" by Glen Berger (Access & Curican Theaters), "Out From Under It" by Susan Bernfield (Vital Theater). Other directing work includes: "No Second Troy" (Karen Hartman) in Jerusalem and "The Mole’s Dance" (Mohammad Kamel Jabr) in Arabic at Assiraj Theater in Ramallah (Palestine) and dozens of readings and workshops at Ensemble Studio Theater, Primary Stage, Women’s Project, Actors Studio, HERE, Rattlestick Theater, La Mama, PS 122, and New Georges Theater. I am an affiliated member and Kitchen Cabinet member of New Georges Theater. Women Project & LCT Directing Lab, alum.I produced and directed a short film"Two Altars and a Cave" starring Lois Smith which screened at NYNewFilmmakers, Sarasota FF, Catskill Mountain FF, Southampton Int'l Film Festival, & Citizen Jane FestivalI was Fulbright scholar in Buenos Aires(2005/6) and am a graduate of Wesleyan University.

    Alex started RTP to make theater by investigating how different cultures interact and view each other. In 2018 RTP commissioned and produced Grey Rock, by Amir Nizar Zuabi. This piece sought to give Palestinian theater artists a direct voice and connection to audiences in New York City where Palestinian narratives have historically faced implicit and explicit censorship. Grey Rock performed to remarkable critical and popular response at the La Mama Theatre in January 2019, followed by a tour to theMelbourne Arts Festival and the US tour (Kennedy Center, Public Theatre/ Under the Radar) Guthrie Theater, Kimmel Theatre), in January & February 2020. GREY ROCK has recently been seen again at the Adelaide Festival, 2023. Our next production, LINES, is developed with artists from Uganda, Palestine, and Lebanon, in collaboration with Roots Mbili (U.K). It will premiere at La MaMa Theater in 2024 followed by a tour in England.Additionally RTP has been developing and producing Public Art projects: - In collaboration with Little Amal, The Walk productions " A Message From Far Away" in Portland, Maine (2021) "A Quiet Refuge" in Brooklyn, NY 2022 and "Embrace the Tangle" in Chinatown/Lower East Side, NYC 2022.- Kin the Cove in Astoria Queens, 2022- Unity Lantern Chinatown, 2023- Asylum Now and Then at Sara Roosevelt Park, 2023Check out more about us and the public art projects we are building in NYC.

I oversaw all aspects of the residency, scheduling, budgeting and payroll.
