About Alex Camacho-Vasconez

I am a results-driven health disaster risk management, and disability inclusion expert with over 24 years of related international and domestic experience. I excel at working in teams and across boundaries, providing cross-functional support, and undertaking research and knowledge management activities. By using my leadership and my skills in program, monitoring, evaluation, communication, and reporting, I develop strategies and programs that contribute to inclusive disaster resilience. I’m also a Medical Doctor with a Master's Degree in Health Management for local development.Key Accomplishments:—At the Pan American Health Organization, implemented and monitor the 2016–2021 Disaster Risk Reduction Plan of Action, developing effective inclusive tools, procedures, and strategies; and as regional Incident Manager for the 2016 earthquake in Ecuador, and Team Member of PAHO's Incident Management System for COVID-19 Pandemic Preparedness and Response. - Over a decade I've been actively mainstreaming disability inclusion in all my areas òf work. As Advisor of the Vice Presidency of the Republic of Ecuador, and as National Secretary of Disabilities, I lead several projects with national and International results to over 13 countries. —For the Ecuadorian Red Cross, developed numerous disaster risk reduction, public health, emergency medical services, and disaster preparedness strategies, improving organizational response time to national and international emergencies and disasters. —While with the Ecuador Ministry of Public Health, organized the Ecuadorian national response to the AH1N1 flu pandemic, as well as the first national emergency medical team. This team provided cross-functional support to Haiti and Chile after the 2010 earthquakes. —As Incident Manager coordinating disaster relief efforts for the 2008 floods, as well as during the Tungurahua Volcano eruption in 2006. - In the Academy field, I have thought in several Universities at undergraduate and Master's program levels.
