Lead Counsel in Transactional Legal Support - Distributed Generation group primarily representing the regulated utility operating companies and unregulated affiliates on transactional matters related to the development, acquisition, construction, financing and operation of the Company’s enterprise renewable energy and distributed energy resources (utility scale and DG) portfolio.

Counsel in Commercial Legal Support (Renewables and Major Projects) group primarily representing the regulated utility operating companies and unregulated business on transactional matters, principally generation development projects (renewable/hydro/fossil) and distributed energy technology development projects.

Counsel in state regulatory group supporting Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress on matters before the North Carolina Utilities Commission and Public Service Commission of South Carolina. Particular areas of responsibility include supporting internal clients on matters relating to retail ratemaking, renewable energy and distributed energy resource development, state renewable portfolio standards compliance (and related cost recovery), energy efficiency and demand side management programs, integrated resource planning, wholesale strategy, new nuclear development, PURPA compliance relating to avoided cost rates and interconnection, net energy metering policy and implementation, legislative and regulatory strategy, state code of conduct/regulatory condition compliance and customer complaints.

Counsel in state regulatory group supporting Duke Energy Carolinas on matters before the North Carolina Utilities Commission and Public Service Commission of South Carolina. Particular areas of responsibility include supporting internal clients on matters relating to retail ratemaking, renewable energy development and state renewable portfolio standards compliance (and related cost recovery), energy efficiency and demand side management programs, integrated resource planning, wholesale strategy, new nuclear development, legislative and regulatory strategy, state code of conduct/regulatory condition compliance and customer complaints.

Clients and matters were generally concentrated in the fields of energy (electricity and natural gas), health care, telecommunications (CLEC), municipal entities, construction (residential and commercial), insurance (coverage and defense) and non-profit associations.

Responsibilities included providing legal support and counsel to a wide variety of the firm’s clients on legislative, regulatory, litigation, and contract/capital development matters. Clients and matters were generally concentrated in the fields of energy (electricity and natural gas), health care, telecommunications (CLEC), municipal entities, construction (residential and commercial), insurance (coverage and defense) and non-profit associations.

Responsibilities include providing legal support and counsel to the firm’s clients on litigation and land use matters. Clients and matters were generally concentrated in the fields of medical malpractice, occupational exposure (asbestos) and land use litigation.
