I am currently a Utilities Staff Professional III at WithersRavenel in Wilmington, North Carolina. My current projects include waterline replacement, sewer lift station upgrade, and sewer rehabilitation projects throughout North Carolina. Additionally, I have experience with field activities such as sewer smoke testing and hydrant flow testing. I graduated in May 2020 from North Carolina State University with a BS in Environmental Engineering and a minor in Business Administration. My interest in this field developed from a young age as I was exposed to the environment on family vacations that included outdoor activities such as rafting, hiking, and fishing. I gained a great appreciation for the natural resources that are so abundant around the United States and desired a field where I could reduce the negative human impact on the environment.During the summer and winter break of 2018 and summer break of 2019, I participated in an Engineering internship at HDR Engineering, Inc. where I was able to get a taste of how practicing engineers utilize their technical knowledge to solve real-world problems. I was exposed to different projects being performed by environmental, structural, and geotechnical engineers. In addition to the technical side of engineering, I was also able to observe each step in the process and see how important teamwork and communication is for the success of a project. Some examples of projects that I worked on were a landfill waste characterization study, SWPPP/NOI preparation, landfill gas well sampling, and erosion and sediment control measures inspections.I also participated in a study abroad program in China to learn more about the business side of an engineering firm. This will allow me to understand the financial implications of decisions that I will make as a practicing engineer while improving my teamwork skills in an international setting.My interests in the Environmental Engineering field are environmental remediation, protection, and compliance related mostly to water resources. In addition, I have experience in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap, and WaterGEMS software.
