I manage people and projects.People: Recruit good technicians with the right attitude and the drive to learn and produce good work. Allocate resource based on people's strengths and weaknesses. Give people responsibility for the work they are to produce and give them ownership of their product. But also ensure that assistance is provided when needed. Monitor the results to ensure that deficiencies are identified and addressed. Stretch people to achieve more but don't overwhelm them with impossible goals.Projects:Get the developers as close as possible to the end users and facilitate detailed discussion about what those users want and need. Ensure that the people who will be signing off the project are involved from the start. Provide some input and direction about the areas that are not being covered in enough detail, but do not become a barrier between people making the system and people using the system. Ensure that the output of the planning process is documented and understood by both parties. Monitor progress, assess and manage risks. Plan subsequent stages. Ensure knowledge is transferred appropriately. Put the system live.I have worked for 20 years in IT Systems Development, the first 7 years being a Developer and DBA, the latter 13 Years in Management.I have lead multi disciplinary teams of up to 16 people. and run multiple concurrent projects, using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.I have seen the advantages that Agile development brings, but also seen the difficulties in getting clients, especially small ones, to work in a fully Agile way.
