Focusing on Trade Effluent dischargers who are non-compliant with their Consented conditions causing environmental damage, operational issues in our sewers or sewage treatment works, or dangerous work environments for our sewer teams. The substances could be anything from fats oils and grease, to heavy metals, to potentially explosive materials such as methane, or poisonous substances such as cyanide and arsenic.My role is to monitor non-compliant dischargers and encourage them to make appropriate changes to regain compliance through an appropriate action plan. I also gather evidence through the taking of Formal Samples of the effluent discharged. If the discharger does not achieve compliance with their Consent conditions, the Formal Samples will be used as evidence in court during a prosecution under the Water Industry Act. It is my responsibility to ensure this evidence is gathered and stored appropriately, as well as collating all communications and any other evidence to be sent to our legal team.

1 month Secondment into the Trade Effluent Billing Manager role at Thames Water providing cover during project work.Managing a team of 4 Trade Effluent Billing specialists. I was specifically tasked with finding efficiencies within the team and methods of work, as well as pushing development opportunities for the team.Day-to-day work included oversight of all Trade Effluent enquiries submitted to Thames Water by Retailers. These enquiries have a service level agreement of 10 business days to respond and we achieved 100% compliance with this metric.I introduced new KPIs to the team to improve the Customer Experience, including timescales for updates on long-term complex enquiries and new SLAs on other work supporting other areas of Thames Water such as facilitating updates to allow meter exchanges on Trade Effluent cases.

Consent technologist within the Trade Effluent (TE) department covering most of West and South-West London. I issue legal TE Consents to customers wishing to discharge to the public foul sewer, regulating both the quantity and contents of that Effluent to protect the public, our assets and the environment from harm.Event Scientist - If there is an Event which requires specialist support (most commonly a pollution incident), I attend to take samples to analyse the effects of the Event, discuss and implement mitigation factors with those on site, and act as a point of contact for the Environment Agency if they also attend the Event.
