As Development Director of the Firefly Fund, Freeman manages digital strategy, donor cultivation, donor stewardship, donor data, program and event planning, strategic communications, and overall fundraising efforts.Firefly Fund is known for supporting children and families affected by rare diseases, inspired by the founders' personal journey with their daughters' diagnoses. It focuses on raising awareness and funds for patient access, research, and treatment.

As the President and CEO of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Alex led the vision, strategy, and operations of a dynamic and diverse cultural institution that showcases the artistic heritage and creativity of the region. He brings over 15 years of experience in museum education, curatorial, and leadership roles and 10 years of expertise in digital technology research and content development in the cultural sector.

At the Texas Association of Museums, Freeman combined day-to-day nonprofit management skills with innovative thinking that inspired and led the association's membership. He served as the primary spokesperson for the association and is knowledgeable of the professional standards, national trends, and current challenges and opportunities faced by Texas museums. He reported to an active governing council of museum professionals and was responsible for the success of the association. Freeman effectively managed the association’s membership services, including a well-attended annual meeting (attendance that generally runs between 350-500), regional workshops, and a statewide newsletter. He was pivotal in securing and migrating membership, marketing, and financial data to a new cloud-based website that allowed for greater data management and conceptualized and led a technology-focused training program for 10 Houston Area Museums called Finding Alternative Futures Phase 2. As a leader in the field, Freeman worked collaboratively and represented TAM to museums, corporations, state agencies, universities, foundations, and state, regional, and national museum associations.

With experience in membership management, market research, and publishing, Freeman provided direct support to The Tambellini Group members as a part of the Client Services team. Versed in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and instructional technology, he used his analysis and insight into global education trends to provide members with indispensable information for strategic planning and direction.

Responsible for managing and coordinating special projects, especially those that served the NMC’s member communities. Produced online and face-to-face professional development programs, and served as editor, co-author, and researcher for NMC Horizon Project publications, which analyzed technology uptake across global higher education, K-12 schools, museums, and libraries.Additional projects and skills included: thought leadership, creative problem-solving, consensus building, international business development, public speaking, project management, grant writing, planning and hosting special events, event photography, and developing social media and blog content.

Managed the education department including the development of youth and adult programs, community partnerships, special events, small exhibitions, and digital education initiatives at this international contemporary art center. Duties included writing interpretive texts, exhibition brochures, and magazine articles; participating directly in public programs and special events; and assisting with tours of projects and exhibitions. Served on Editorial Board for Artpace Magazine. Supervised an Assistant Curator of Education and seven Gallery Educators.

Worked with the Gallery Director at this world-renowned commercial art gallery. Duties included exhibition design and construction, art handling and preparation, work schedule preparation, inventory control, artist research, cataloging of incoming artwork, and sales assistance.

Freeman began his career in the arts as a supervisor for a company specializing in therapeutic art consulting for hospitals and medical centers. He managed a crew of 12 framers. Responsible for efficient workflow through a production shop, moderated supply consumption, managed logistics, and administered weekly job training. Freeman was responsible for the procurement of artwork and raw materials, confirmation of dimensions, and integration of materials into the production line. Led team installations and performed solo installations in hospitals across the continental United States.
