I lead the Technical Services Team which includes the organisation’s Technical Authorities & Verification/MOC Coordinator. I am responsible for the provision of technical advice and support to ensure the continuing suitability and integrity of the organisation's Safety & Environmental Critical Elements. I identified a series of equipment failures that resulted in significant integrity issues on a floating installation. I led a multi-functional team to fully define the scope of the problem and to create a prioritised action plan to resolve the issues. I developed a cumulative risk assessment process that employed a qualitative review of Operational Risk Assessments. The result was a formal process that was effective in identifying cumulative risks arising from performance standard deviations and the deferral of safety critical maintenance. Through a process of education and audit, I led a sustained campaign to improve the quality of organisational risk assessments. The result has been an improvement in the quality of hazard identification and in the establishment of effective control measures.

I was responsible for coordinating all aspects of process safety across the business unit. I developed and led a Major Hazard Awareness course based at the Spadeadam Test Site in Cumbria. I designed the course around credible major accident hazards on the Chevron North Sea installations with the aim of helping people to understand the hazards and their role in preventing them. To date over 150 people have attended the course, including around 20 from overseas business units. I led the development of revised operating procedures for safety critical systems. The result was a clearer, more concise set of operating procedures that used a series of human factors principles to minimise the potential for human error. I developed a robust set of process safety metrics that I published monthly, together with a qualitative assessment of the trends. The result was a greater awareness of the issues driving process safety performance at all levels across the organisation.

I coordinate process safety and risk management activities across the Upstream Europe business unit to ensure a holistic and strategic approach. I am the point of contact for all Technical Safety issues involving the Offshore Safety Directive Regulator. I lead and coordinate all process safety audit and assurance programs across the Upstream Europe Business Unit. I am the point of contact for all regulatory and process safety issues relating to major capital projects. I lead the work to grow process safety and regulatory knowledge within the business unit. I lead all HSE work relating to non-operated joint ventures. I lead all safety case related work including the development of our Transitional Safety Cases under the 2015 Safety Case Regulations.

I led the development of a new HSE Policy for the business unit to ensure compliance with new legislation and alignment across the business unit. I led the coordination of process safety across the HSE, FE and Operations functions. Developed and rolled out a Process Safety Governance Model to ensure a focused and coordinated approach to process and technical safety within CUE. I delivered a presentation at the 2015 Oil & Gas Denmark Safety Conference on the subject of developing a process safety culture on the Rosebank Project. I advised a partner operator on how to address a number of regulatory issues associated with a safety case resubmission and a combined operations notification, both of which affected a Chevron Project. My actions prevented a 2 month delay to the project, saving approx. $12 million. I Identified risks associated with a cold vent on a Major Capital Project. I influenced the project team to redesign the fuel gas system to eliminate the vent and significantly reduce the hydrocarbon risks.I led the update of 5 safety cases within the business unit to ensure compliance with new legislation. This involved leading updates to the QRA studies and an update to the Business Unit Verification Scheme. I led the PHA/SOA studies on all Chevron UK assets, ensuring that the studies were properly resourced, planned and executed. The studies were effective in identifying a number of elevated risks. I am leading the work to ensure that these risks are mitigated. I led the Risk Management and Technical Safety team, establishing priorities and setting work direction for it. I arranged flammability tests on a new polymer to demonstrate that it was not a new Major Accident Hazard. This eliminated a potential four month delay to a major capital project.
