PURPAS - Paving a Unique Path for People on the Autism SpectrumWe are a family support group under the Parent to Parent Organization of PAVE based in Tacoma, WA. We help connect families to services and resources for anyone they might know that is on the high functioning end of the Autism Spectrum. PURPAS has several components:Monthly Family Meeting - We meet once a month at Foss High School from 6:30-8:00pm the second Wednesday of every month. During this time parents/siblings/adults engage in conversation, share resources or are provided information by various different speakers.Young Adults on the Spectrum spend time with me (the Life Coach) learning social skills, job skills, etc.Family Events- 1-2 times a month we plan activities for the whole family. Events have included:Mt. Rainer Day HikesWoodland Park Zoo BBQ'sCooking EventsSocial Communication Group-Every other Friday young adults are encouraged to join the Social Communication Group lead by a local Speech and Language Pathologist. This group is a unique format to learn the social cues that might pose as a barrier for some individuals on the Autism Spectrum. There is a $25 fee per session. (For more information please contact me directly.) Life Skills Coaching-Through a grant from PAVE, PURPAS is able to provide FREE life skills coaching. I am available to help individuals that are facing difficulties finding employment, volunteer opportunities, recreational activities, cooking skills, independent living resources, and much more.
