During my tenure, student achievement was at the center of my work. I quickly built strong, authentic relationships with students, parents, and my colleagues. As a result, I built a large and thriving vocal music program, and taught with the diverse cultural perspectives and characteristics of my students in mind. During that time, I also served as a district equity leader and facilitator of the Gay Straight Alliance. I was charged with and succeeded in modeling and promoting best practices for establishing a culture of equity-mindedness that upholds the human dignity of our learning community. I developed and implemented a tool that measured each building’s needs in equity development and programming. Based on the data collected, I designed tailored training and programs to advance our mission of eliminating racial disparities in student outcomes.
