You could argue that my time in journalism started as early as the fall of 1992, when I was in eighth grade and drawing political cartoons for my school newspaper in Belfast, Maine. The Waldo Independent ran a story on me, and I drew a few cartoons for that publication as well during high school.I began the literary component in January 1999, when I interned with the Bangor Daily News in Bangor, Maine, while a sophomore at Colby College. That led to an internship at the Republican Journal, another Belfast newspaper, and I drew more cartoons for Colby's paper. For a long time my goal was to draw for Marvel Comics.A month after graduating from Colby in May 2001 I started my first full-time newspaper job, writing and taking photos for the Lincoln County Weekly in Damariscotta, Maine. I then joined the fledgling Community Leader in Falmouth, Maine, in June 2004, and in March 2007 started with The Forecaster, a longtime newspaper also based in Falmouth that is part of the Lewiston Sun Journal family of publications.Thanks to a story-sharing agreement between The Forecaster and Bangor Daily News, many of my stories have appeared in the latter publication in the past year.Although I don't draw for Marvel, I've been able to use my journalistic experience to interview comic creators for the Marvel Spotlight magazine, and I've written essays and done research and content planning work for several of the company's publications. I've been freelancing with Marvel since January 2008.Last but not least, I've written, performed, and recorded my own music compositions since 2000. I've released three CDs: Mayflower Hill (2004), Sandpapered Dreams (2005), and Memorywall (2007), and have been gradually working on another. You can learn more at alexlear.com.
