Deputy Head of Science overseeing KS3 curriculum

I have recently joined one of the most improving schools in the Dudley Metropolitan Borough and have been appointed as key stage 4 Science lead. This will allow me to gain concrete evidence of having an impact on pupil progress and improving a department.

As key stage 2-3 transition manager I was responsible for a whole year group. Part of the job role was to engage with the local community by visiting local feeder schools and promoting Smith’s Wood Sports College. In my first term as transition manager, we were at full capacity in Year 7 and I managed the logistics of taster and inductions days for Year 5 and 6 cohorts respectively. Placing pupils into tutor groups, monitoring behaviour and praise as well as organising transition events through meticulously planned action plans were other crucial aspects to this position.

As a result of being a participant on the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, I have obtained many transferable skills. Reflecting upon performance and constantly striving to improve is something at the centre of my vision. I am a highly motivated, enthusiastic and determined individual with a proactive nature which epitomises everything that I do. A motto I have in my classroom is something which I consider as a professional and is as follows; mistakes are not concerning, they only lead to learning.

I had to provide tremendous customer service to a wide range of shoppers. I was also responsible for training new staff on the service counters. Signing legal documentation, completing stock counts, replenishing stock and price reductions were other responsibilities associated with this position.
