Alex attended Marlborough College, where he studied Theatre Studies and Drama. He then trained with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain (NYT) and graduated with an MA in Philosophy from Edinburgh University. Whilst an undergrad, he attended the National Student Theatre Festival (winning Best Ensemble) and wrote and directed his first play, The Space in Between, which was subsequently performed at The Orange Tree Theatre in London. Alex trained as an actor in NYC with The Barrow Group, also taking classes with Sondra Lee (a student of Stella Adler). He then returned to London to train in Meisner Technique under Tom Radcliffe (a student of Sanford Meisner). He also took workshops with National Theatre director Di Trevis, at The National School of Film and Television and The London Film School. He began acting professionally in plays (from Shakespeare to new writing), commercials (for major brands), television (for the BBC) and award-winning independent films.Happy Accident was his first short film as writer/director, starring Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill) and Kate Fahy (Defiance). His second short film, Synchronicity, starred Bafta-winner Bill Paterson (Fleabag) and Ben Aldridge (Fleabag). His third short, Fingers, starred Anton Saunders (Luther) James Alexandrou (Silent Witness) and Ty Glaser (Secret Diary of a Call Girl). The film won several awards. His fourth short film, Ok, Mum, played at the Cannes Film Festival and won multiple awards, including Best Picture at the Los Angeles Film Awards. It starred Sam Redford (The Hurt Locker), Gina Bramhill (Sherlock) and Eleanor Stagg (MacBeth). He is producing his debut feature, The Queen of Fashion, about the life of visionary British fashion designer Isabella Blow, alongside Matthew Rhodes (Cherry) and Rob Barnum (Margin Call). Attached are thrice Oscar-nommed Costume Designer, Arianne Philips (A Single Man) and twice Oscar-nommed Cinematographer, Stephen Goldblatt (The Help). Alongside his other work, Alex teaches group classes in Meisner technique and works as an acting coach. Notably, he worked with Emily Beecham on her role in Little Joe (directed by Jessica Hausner) which won Emily the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He looks forward to seeing her forthcoming work as the lead in The Pursuit of Love (BBC, Amazon) and in Disney's Cruella. Alex is also an ambassador for The Campaign to Change Direction, a not for profit seeking to change culture around mental health. He splits his time between London and California.
