I worked in a student-run newsroom on a weekly basis, pitching stories in the morning then interviewing, writing and completing them by 5pm. I covered everything form breaking news and human-centered features for print, social, radio and broadcast television formats. These stories included coverage of the 2018 Emmy Awards, increasing female guitarists and teens working midterm polls in Compton. For my final project, I created a multimedia piece in which I related the rise of female superheroes in film to rising self-esteem among young girls. I interviewed 40 elementary school-aged girls!

In addition to critiquing films and music, I wrote pieces profiling local events such as art shows and brewery openings on a weekly basis. About halfway into my internship, I pitched and wrote a feature story called "On a Mission", which evaluated the ethical implications of recreating mission architecture in San Diego, home of one of the largest indigenous populations in the country. The story accumulated over 1,000 views in just under a week of publication and trended on the site for over a month.
