Alex Schaefer (formerly Boyar) has worked on the front lines of high-stakes political investment and strategy for over a decade, exceeding targets every step of the way. Since founding ATS Strategies, Alex has pivoted into providing white glove donor advising services through working with high-impact individuals, families, and organizations. Before founding ATS Strategies, Alex served as the LGBTQ+ Finance Director for the Democratic National Committee, where he has spent more than four years building up the Democratic infrastructure primarily through LGBTQ+ investments. In this role, Alex has raised over $50 million since 2017, shattering records year after year. In addition, during the 2020 Presidential cycle, Alex served as LGBTQ+ Finance Director for the Biden Victory Fund; Alex secured high-level investments from the nation’s top LGBTQ+ donors and bundlers. Alex thrives in high-pressure environments, especially when his interpersonal skills are critical for success.Before joining the DNC, Alex was a Senior Associate at AKM Consulting, a boutique Democratic fundraising firm. In his role, he served as the Deputy National Finance Director for U.S. Senator Chris Coons and Finance Director of Equality PAC, the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus. Alex joined the firm after serving as State Finance Director for Senator Chris Coons. He managed the entire in-state fundraising program and consistently raised above campaign targets. Alex finished the 2014 cycle raising $1.2 million, which was a record amount for in-state fundraising at the time. Alex started his career after the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund recruited him to the position of Finance Director for a Delaware State Senate race. Alex’s candidate was running to become the first openly gay state legislator in Delaware’s history. After nine months, Alex raised a historical amount for a legislative race in Delaware, a fact which was highlighted in national LGBTQ+ publications.Alex holds a B.S. in Finance from Sonoma State University, where he also served as student body President. He is an alumnus of the New Leaders Council (Philadelphia Chapter) and the Panetta Institute for Public Policy.
