The business is investing heavily in product development and process efficiency improvement which has required expansion of the toolroom to facilitate 2 large projects >5,000 man hours of work over 18 months.Several new processes have been commissioned, including significant increases in capacity and quality which have required international co-operation and travel with machine suppliers.The process efficiency improvements are focussed on high volume products, one of which has seen a three fold increase in output, resulting in a 40% reduction in costs.

At this time I became responsible for Engineering/Maintenance for the group and shortly afterwards acting IT Manager.The new Sales Director led me to implement a cloud based business intelligence system across 3 independent systems including Syspro and SAP to facilitate common reporting methods. The IT infrastructure was re-designed with automated cloud backups and led to a demonstrated 99.98% uptime and zero loss of data.The largest project was business wide audit of the ERP system which led to a group wide migration project. Starting with Griflex as a pilot, which was a success, Flexicon followed at the end of 2013 in cooperation with a new IT Manager who joined a few months before. Two of the key improvements were the implementation of MRP and an increase of inventory accuracy to greater than 98%.Several other key projects included a new toolroom facility with conventional machining, EDM and a CMM for quality control, several factory re-layouts, off-site distribution facility and new centralised IT infrastructure for the Australian subsidiary and an upgrade of their ERP system.

The primary function of this role was to develop new products and improve process quality which quickly morphed into process efficiency and automation. It involved included the introduction and documentation of several databases to support the production side of the business and a requisition system for Engineering to manage resources more efficiently.In the early part of this role the business acquired its sister company Griflex which required the relocation of all plant and equipment and saw a significant increase in the Engineering and Maintenance tasks which I was responsible for.
