Assistant Coordinator For Departmental Initiatives
This is a graduate assistantship within Residence Life that is a cross functional role. The position offers opportunities for involvement within the department’s four focus areas of Enrollment Management, Leadership, Diversity, and Academics. Opportunities to develop skills in supervising staff, advising student groups, budgeting programming monies, and administrative decision making are available. This position shares responsibilities with the Coordinator for Multicultural Leadership and the Coordinator for Enrollment Management and Academic Outreach. 1. Co-coordinate outreach programs for Focus Areas, including but not limited to writing newsletters/publications, scheduling speakers, coordinate recruiting events, planning retreats, developing resources, speaking to prospective residents.2. Co-manage and supervise the operation of the academic resource centers, including recruitment, selection, training, supervision of Academic Resource Assistants and Academic Tutors. 3. Interacting with students on a regular basis; providing information and assistance concerning academic issues, peer conflicts, personal problems, etc; being accessible and visible to students. 4. Responsible for on-going training of professional and paraprofessional staff on programs within the Focus Areas. 5. Advise student groups that fall within the Focus Areas. Examples include the Multicultural Assistants, Housing and Dining Ambassadors, Association of Residence Halls, and Housing Leadership Scholars. 6. Develop programs to support the specific needs of under-represented populations. 7. Monitor and assess academic clusters and leadership environments, initiatives, and services in the residence halls.8. Present programs to outside groups on topics relevant to the Focus Areas. 9. Participate in departmental and university committees, task forces, and other professional development activities.10. Actively engage in personal and professional development.
