About Alexa Jurado

I'm a news reporter with interests in the things that impact everyday life: housing, transportation, health care and education (and the policies that affect them). At The State, I write about the University of South Carolina, Richland County public schools and statewide education policy. I cover breaking news on the weekend and have immersed myself in almost every kind of story South Carolina has to offer, from the destruction of Hurricane Helene to women’s basketball. I pride myself on my flexibility — I'm up for anything thrown my way.I keep a pulse on what matters to our community members and readers, and prioritize work that keeps institutions and officials accountable. I am well-versed in the grind of daily reporting and feature writing, hungry for watchdog and enterprise work and happiest when adding a human element to hard-hitting stories. A recent graduate from from Marquette University degrees in journalism, digital media and Latinx studies, I'm well-versed in multimedia techniques, including video and audio production, photography and editing using Adobe Creative Suite. I hope to use these skills further in my next opportunity. Most of all, I'm passionate about storytelling and excited for all the possibilities contemporary journalism brings!

Listed skills include Journalism, Multimedia, Collaboration, Video Production, and 31 others.
