Undergraduate researcher in the CSULB Mammal Lab. Independent project studying the evolution of armor thickness in the extant species and subspecies of pangolins. This is done through the scanning of study skins in a medical-grade CT scanner and subsequently measuring the thickness of scales at various regions of the body using the program 3D Slicer. This data will be used in conjunction with ecological data (e.g., risk of predation, predator bite force, habitat openness, etc.) in order to determine what selective pressures may have been the most significant in the evolution of armor thickness.

Restoration of coastal sage scrub habitats through the removal of invasive plants and the planting of native ones. Work consists of going out with a group of volunteers and doing the aforementioned tasks while providing additional information about the science behind what we are doing.

Visiting researcher in the InSTInCT REU. My project studied the scaling relationship between body size and sexually selected traits in leaf-footed bugs. This involved extensive fieldwork in which six species of leaf-footed bugs were collected from their host plants in the wild. The pronotum width (metric for body size) and the width of the hind-leg femur (the sexually selected trait of interest) were measured by photographing the bugs and subsequently taking measurements using ImageJ. In addition, microdissections of femoral tracheae were conducted as a potential morphological explanation for how male leaf-footed bugs are able to maintain enlarged femurs.

Contacted businesses owners and contractors when their employees came to do phone sales. Named a peer coach to assist the department supervisor with the training of new associates.
